Quarantine Got You Going Mad?!

Updated: Dec 9, 2020

Are you going stir crazy at home?! Well you’re NOT alone!!! You, me, and countless others are missing our normal daily routines!! BUT in hopes of finding a silver lining through this pandemic, I have created a fun list of things us rock lovers can do to stay sane during quarantine!! So let's just jump right in, shall we?!

1. Make pet rocks!

Yes, it is as simple as it sounds. Start with any rock. Then add different features such as eyes, nose, mouth, etc.. Get creative!! Use what you have, whether it be paint, markers, crayons, glue and paper, etc.. To finish it off, give your pet a fitting name!!

2. Decorate rocks!

I normally start off by scoping out my surrounding areas for the perfect stone. Once I find that perfect specimen, I usually clean off if i'm not going for a rustic/vintage look. Now this is where you let your creative juices take over-be unique and have fun with it! The possibilities of what you can create are endless, from painting to decoupaging your stones, this is a great way to destress and unwind rocks!!

3. Arranging rocks...

My bet is, you have most likely seen some form of this around! Balancing stones, and stone arrangement are very common and can be seen all around, even in nature, if you are aware! They're extremely fun and simple to do! Rock balancing is exactly what you'd think, just balance one rock on top of the other. This can be a bit tricky but fun to see how high you can balance your tower! Get creative with your stone arrangements! Try arranging the rocks to portray an image from above (like seen in the photo). Keep arranging your rocks until you get the desired image!

4. Rock Tic Tac Toe!

You will need 10 similar sized rocks and 1 flat rock or slab of wood. Keep in mind, the 10 rocks will need to fit on the 1 rock/wood slab. The 1 flat rock or wood slab will be your base. Draw or paint 2 lines going in both directions to create the tic tac toe outline. Seperate your 10 similar sized rocks in half(so you have 2 groups of 5). Draw or paint your desired symbols, go for the classic X’s and O’s or get creative! Wait for it all to dry and start playing!!

5. Go rock hunting near by!

Quarantine does NOT mean you can't explore, as long as you are socially distancing there is no reason you must be confined to your house. So what're you waiting for? Get researching and see if there's any local rock hunting or sight seeing spots near you! If all else fails you can always attempt finding something in your yard/local park. You may be surprised at what you find:)

6. Cracking Geodes!

Cracking open a geode always gives me a rush of endorphins! However, I have to admit, I am a bit biased about where to buy geodes. Of course I recommend coming into the shop and staying updated on our website for the next round of geodes!! Which brings me to the next thing on my list!

7. ORDER FROM OUR WEBSITE!!!

Check out some of the rad new specimens on our online shop!! We're in the process of adding TONS of new items to our shop, so stay tuned!!

***SIDE NOTE: These last few are more for jokes and giggles***

8. Leave stone footprints all over:]

I know it sounds a bit ridiculous but bear with me! Find one oval rock and 5 smaller ones(preferably toe shaped). Put them together to make the shape of a foot! Leave them in creative spots to spread some joy! I love doing this with my nephews, it's a great way to keep the little ones entertained!

9. Guess how many rocks are in my pocket!!

Step 1. Fill pocket with rocks(keeping track of how many rocks go in)!

Step 2. Find a friend and make them guess how many rocks are in your pocket!

Or if you're quarantined alone, repeat the steps but this time DONT count how many rocks go in your pocket. Now YOU guess how many rocks are in your pocket:) Take them out and proceed to see how close your guess is. You may be surprised at how many rocks you can fit in a pocket!!

10. Guess that specimen!!

Scroll through our instagram page @geologyrocksandminerals and see if you can guess what each specimen is. If you have difficulty you can always click the post and read more about the mineral! While you're on our page, (if you haven't already) FOLLOW US!!

11. Play “marbles” with tumbles

Yes this one is a bit of a stretch..mainly a joke but if it works please share your experience!! Most of you have played the game marbles, but if you haven't I would do a quick google search of the rules.

Step 1. Switch your marbles with tumbled stones(preferably bought from our store).

Step 2. Proceed playing the game “marbles” as usual.

Step 3. Laugh at what you're doing!

That is all for today! Thank you for staying tuned during this crazy time! We sure do love seeing all of our customers, so bring your masks and come on in!! See you again next time!!
